Darius Tiyon Miller (born March 21, 1990) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats. He finished his senior year by helping his team win the national championship in 2012.

High School Basketball Journey

Darius Miller went to Mason County High School. During his senior year, he was a star player, averaging almost 20 points per game. He also grabbed nearly 8 rebounds and made about 4 assists and 3 steals per game. He led his team to win a state championship in 2008.

After his great senior season, Darius was named "Kentucky Mr. Basketball". This award goes to the best high school basketball player in Kentucky. Experts at Rivals.com thought he was one of the top small forwards in the country.

College Career Highlights

Darius Miller played for the University of Kentucky. In 2012, his team won the NCAA national championship. After this big win, Darius was chosen to give a special Kentucky jersey and championship ring to President Barack Obama at the White House.

Darius is the only player from Kentucky to achieve three special things:

  • Be named "Kentucky Mr. Basketball" in high school.
  • Win a state championship with his high school team.
  • Win an NCAA national title with the University of Kentucky.

He also played more games for the University of Kentucky than any other player. His last college game was his 152nd for the team. This broke the old record of 151 games.

Professional Basketball Career

Starting with the New Orleans Pelicans (2012–2014)

In 2012, Darius Miller was picked by the New Orleans Hornets in the 2012 NBA draft. He was the 46th player chosen overall. He signed a multi-year contract with the team in August 2012.

The Hornets changed their name to the New Orleans Pelicans in April 2013. Darius continued to play for them. He was sometimes sent to play for the Iowa Energy, a team in a different league, to get more playing time. He was called back to the Pelicans in January 2013. In November 2014, he left the Pelicans.

Playing in Germany with Brose Bamberg (2015–2017)

In February 2015, Darius moved to Germany to play for a team called Brose Bamberg. He played there for the rest of the 2014–15 season. He liked it so much that he signed to play for them for two more years.

While playing for Brose Bamberg, Darius helped them win the German basketball league championship three times in a row (2015, 2016, 2017). He was even named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the league finals in 2016. In July 2017, he decided to leave Germany to return to the NBA.

Back with the New Orleans Pelicans (2017–2020)

Darius Miller signed with the New Orleans Pelicans again in July 2017. This was his second time playing for the team. On November 13, 2017, he scored a career-high 21 points in a close game against the Atlanta Hawks.

He matched his career-high of 21 points two more times in the 2018–19 season. Once against the Minnesota Timberwolves and again against the Oklahoma City Thunder. In July 2019, he signed another two-year contract with the Pelicans. However, in August 2019, he had surgery for a serious injury to his right Achilles tendon, which kept him from playing for a while.

Time with the Oklahoma City Thunder (2020–2021)

In November 2020, Darius Miller was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. He played 18 games for them before being waived by the team in April 2021.
