David Eugene Garnett, born on December 6, 1970, is a former American football player. He played as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for four seasons. His teams included the Minnesota Vikings and the Denver Broncos. Before joining the NFL, he played college football at Stanford University.

David Garnett's College Football Career

David Garnett was a key player for the Stanford Cardinal college team. He played for four years, from 1989 to 1992.

Freshman Year at Stanford

In 1989, as a freshman, he played in ten games and started five of them. He made 51 tackles that season.

Sophomore and Junior Years

In 1990, he was the third-best tackler on his team with 65 tackles. He also received an honorable mention for the All-Pac-10 team. The next year, in 1991, he was second on the team with 64 tackles. He missed one game because of a broken thumb. For the second year in a row, he earned honorable mention All-Pac-10 honors.

David Garnett's Professional Football Career

After college, David Garnett was not chosen in the 1993 NFL draft. However, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings on May 4, 1993.

Playing for the Minnesota Vikings (1993–1994)

In his first year, 1993, Garnett played in all 16 games for the Vikings. He made 11 tackles. He also played in one playoff game that season. In 1994, he played in nine games. He recorded five solo tackles, two assisted tackles, and recovered two fumbles.

Time with the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos (1995)

In 1995, the Carolina Panthers chose Garnett in the 1995 NFL expansion draft. However, he was released by the Panthers on May 22, 1995.

He then signed with the Denver Broncos on May 31, 1995. He was released again in August but re-signed with them in October. During the 1995 season, he played in three games for the Broncos. He made two solo tackles and one assisted tackle before being released again on October 24, 1995.

Return to the Minnesota Vikings (1996)

Garnett signed with the Minnesota Vikings again on February 26, 1996. In 1996, he played in 12 games and started four of them. He recorded eight solo tackles, five assisted tackles, and recovered one fumble. After this season, he became a free agent.
