David Michael Manson (born January 27, 1967) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He was a defenceman, which means he played a position focused on stopping the other team from scoring. David Manson played for many teams in the National Hockey League (NHL).
After his playing career, he became a coach. He was an assistant coach for the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL until November 12, 2023.

Playing Hockey
David Manson started his hockey journey playing junior hockey. He played for his hometown team, the Prince Albert Raiders, in the Western Hockey League.
In 1985, he was chosen 11th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL Draft. This meant the Blackhawks picked him as one of the best young players to join their team. He started playing for them a year later.
Manson played for several NHL teams during his career. These included the Chicago Blackhawks, Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets, Phoenix Coyotes, Montreal Canadiens, Dallas Stars, and Toronto Maple Leafs. He played in over 1,100 NHL games before he retired in 2002. He was known for being a tough player, spending a lot of time in the penalty box.
Coaching Hockey
After retiring as a player, David Manson became a coach. He worked as an assistant coach for the Prince Albert Raiders from 2002 to 2009. He also coached the Prince Albert Mintos for a short time.
He returned to the Raiders in 2011 and stayed there until 2018. Later, he became an assistant coach for the Bakersfield Condors in the American Hockey League starting in 2018.
In February 2022, Manson was hired as an assistant coach for the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL. He worked with the Oilers until November 2023.
About David Manson's Life
David Manson has four children with his late wife, Lana. He lives in Christopher Lake, Saskatchewan.
His son, Josh, is also a professional hockey player. Josh is a defenceman for the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL. David's daughter, Meagan, played soccer for the University of Saskatchewan. He also has twins, Ben and Emma. Ben played junior hockey for the La Ronge Ice Wolves.
David Manson is remembered for his unique, low, raspy voice. This happened after he was hit in the throat during a game in 1991 by another player, Sergio Momesso. The hit caused lasting damage to his voice box.
