David Vidal's Football Journey
David Vidal was born in Porto do Son, a town in Galicia, Spain. He played football as a central defender. He never played in Spain's top league, La Liga. He only played 15 games in the second division, called Segunda División.
Starting as a Coach
In 1982, David Vidal started coaching. His first coaching job was with Cádiz CF. He began by coaching the youth teams. Later, he became an assistant manager. In 1987, he briefly took over as head coach. Then, for the 1988–89 season, he became the main coach.
While coaching Cádiz, he managed a famous player named Mágico González. David Vidal once said that Mágico González was "technically better than Maradona!"
Coaching Different Teams
After Cádiz, David Vidal coached CD Logroñés for two and a half years. This team stayed in the top league during his time. After that, he mostly coached teams in the second division.
On January 12, 2007, he became the manager of Elche CF. But on October 12, 2008, he was let go. This happened after Elche only got two points from seven games. His assistant, Claudio Barragán, took over for a short time.
In 2010, David Vidal became the manager of Albacete Balompié. He helped the team avoid being moved down to a lower league. They finished 15th in the second division. After that, his contract was not renewed.
He returned to Albacete Balompié during the 2010–11 season. But he only stayed for about a month and a half. The team ended up being moved down to a lower league after 21 years in the second division.
Later Coaching Roles
After taking two years off from football, David Vidal joined Xerez CD in 2013. This team was having money problems. He left after less than a month. He continued to coach in lower leagues.
In May 2017, David Vidal helped Lorca FC get promoted to the second division. He had joined the team just the month before. However, his contract was not extended after June 5.
On June 20, 2019, after almost two years without coaching, David Vidal became the manager of Racing Murcia FC. This team played in a regional league. In October 2020, he left for personal reasons.
