Dean Stanley Geyer (born March 20, 1986) is a talented singer, songwriter, actor, and martial artist from South Africa and Australia. He became well-known after coming in third place on the TV show Australian Idol in 2006. Dean also played important roles in popular TV series like Neighbours (as Ty Harper), Glee (as Brody Weston), and Terra Nova (as Mark Reynolds).

Dean Geyer's Early Life
Dean Geyer was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He is the oldest of three children. His father, Keith Geyer, is a master in JKA Karate. He even appeared in two South African films, Kill or Be Killed and Kill and Kill Again. Dean's two younger sisters, Jess and Tatum, also enjoy martial arts.
Dean's love for music started when he was very young. He learned to play the guitar. He wrote his first song, "Change," about moving from South Africa to Australia. When he went to school in Melbourne, Australia, he attended Melbourne High School. This was a special school for boys in South Yarra, Victoria.
When Dean auditioned for Australian Idol, he sang his own song called "Nice to Meet You." In 2004, Dean started a band named "Third Edge." They recorded their music at Studio 52. The studio allowed Dean and his band to perform at the Kool Skools awards night. They were nominated for an award. Dean is also a strong Christian and has often spoken about his faith.
Dean Geyer's Career Journey
Dean Geyer tried out for the fourth season of Australian Idol in Melbourne. He sang "Walking In Memphis" by Marc Cohn. Then, he performed his own song, "Nice to Meet You." All three judges loved his song and voted for him to move on to the Top 100.
Australian Idol Success
Dean made it through the next rounds in Sydney, where the Top 100 became the Top 24. He sang "I Don't Wanna Be" by Gavin DeGraw. Later, he performed the U2 hit "Beautiful Day" with Chris Murphy. They became good friends and impressed the judges. Dean was one of the first contestants to reach the Top 12.
On October 15, Dean's performance of "On the Way Down" by Ryan Cabrera earned a "touchdown" from judge Mark Holden. During the "Disco" themed show, Dean did a front handspring and a backflip. Many people, including former Idol judges, thought Dean might win the competition.
On November 12, Dean got another "Touchdown" from Mark Holden for his song "I'll Be" by Edwin McCain. Even though Dean was very popular, he was voted off the show on November 13. He finished third, behind Jessica Mauboy and the winner, Damien Leith.
Music and Acting in Australia
After Australian Idol, Dean signed a music deal with SonyBMG Australia. He worked with Grammy-nominated producer Greg Wells and helped write eight songs for his first album. In April 2007, Dean released his first song, "If You Don't Mean It." It reached number 10 on the ARIA Charts. His album, Rush, came out on May 26, 2007. It reached number 7 on the ARIA Charts.
In November 2007, Dean joined the TV show Neighbours. He played Ty Harper, a musician who left law school. Dean worked with a drama coach to prepare for the role. He also took voice lessons to help with his accent. Dean's first episode aired on March 27, 2008. He sang a duet with his co-star Caitlin Stasey called "Unforgettable." This song reached number 40 on the ARIA Downloads Chart. In November 2008, Dean decided to leave Neighbours to focus on his music again. His last scenes aired in April 2009.
International Acting Roles
In October 2010, Dean announced he would be in his first movie, Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown. This was a sequel to the 2008 film Never Back Down. Dean played Mike Stokes, a former high school wrestler who competes in MMA. The movie was filmed in Louisiana and released in September 2011.
In July 2011, Dean appeared on the American TV show Single Ladies. In 2012, he had a big role in the Fox Network science fiction show Terra Nova.
In July 2012, Dean was cast in the fourth season of the musical comedy-drama Glee. He played Brody Weston, an older student at NYADA who becomes involved with Rachel Berry (Lea Michele). Dean first appeared on Glee in the episode "The New Rachel" on September 13, 2012.
In 2015, Dean acted in several films. He played Daniel in Landmine Goes Click. He also appeared in The Sand, Don't Wake Mommy, and Rehearsal. Dean was also in the TV crime-drama Shades of Blue with Jennifer Lopez. He appeared in three episodes.
In 2020, Dean started releasing new music again after more than ten years. In 2023, Dean was cast in Zoey 102, a movie that continues the story of the TV show Zoey 101. The film was released on July 27, 2023, on Paramount+.
Dean Geyer's Personal Life
In 2007, Dean started dating Lisa Origliasso from the Australian music group The Veronicas. They met at the 2007 ARIA Awards. In April 2008, Lisa announced that they were engaged. However, they later called off the engagement because of their busy work schedules.
In 2010, Dean began dating American actress Jillian Murray. They announced their engagement on December 18, 2016. Dean and Jillian were married on September 14, 2017.
