Early Life and Music Beginnings

Dean Geyer was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He is the oldest of three children. His two younger sisters, Jess and Tatum, also enjoy martial arts, just like him.

Dean started loving music when he was very young. He learned to play the guitar. He even wrote his first song, "Change," about moving from South Africa to Australia. In Melbourne, Australia, he went to Melbourne High School.

In 2004, Dean started a band called "Third Edge." They recorded some of his original songs. Dean is also a strong Christian and has often talked about his faith, especially during his time on Australian Idol.

Becoming an Idol

Dean tried out for the fourth season of Australian Idol in Melbourne. He sang "Walking In Memphis" by Marc Cohn. Then, he played his own song called "Nice to Meet You." The judges loved his original song and sent him to the next round.

Dean made it through the tough elimination rounds. He sang "I Don't Wanna Be" by Gavin DeGraw. He also performed "Beautiful Day" by U2 with his friend Chris Murphy. The judges were impressed by their singing and their friendship.

Dean was one of the most popular contestants. Judge Mark Holden gave him a "touchdown" for his performance of "On the Way Down" by Ryan Cabrera. During the "Disco" week, Dean even did a front handspring and a backflip on stage! Many thought he would win the show. However, he was eliminated on November 13, 2006, finishing third.
