Dearborn is a small city located in the state of Missouri, USA. It's found in both Buchanan and Platte counties. Dearborn is also part of the larger Kansas City metropolitan area. In 2020, about 482 people lived there.

Discovering Dearborn's Past
Dearborn got its name from Henry Dearborn, a brave general who fought in the American Revolutionary War. He also served as the United States Secretary of War, which is like a top leader for the country's military. The city officially became a city in 1882.
The Old Railway Line
For about 20 years, from 1913 to 1933, Dearborn was a stop on an important train line. This line, called the Kansas City, Clay County and St. Joseph Railway, connected Kansas City and St. Joseph. You can still see parts of the old railway path today, especially north of Dearborn towards St. Joseph.
A Lucky Lottery Win
In November 2012, something very exciting happened in Dearborn. One of two winning tickets for a huge $587.5 million Powerball jackpot was bought at a gas station in the city. Imagine that!
Where is Dearborn Located?
Dearborn is in the northern part of Platte County. It's about half a mile south of the line that separates Platte and Buchanan counties. Just north of the county line, you'll find the Dearborn Reservoir. The city is located near Routes Z and Y, about one mile east of U.S. Route 71. A stream called Bee Creek flows along the west side of the community.

The United States Census Bureau says that Dearborn covers a total area of about 0.91 square miles (2.36 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 0.89 square miles (2.31 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.02 square miles (0.05 square kilometers), is water.

Most of Dearborn is in Platte County, which is part of the larger Kansas City Metropolitan Area. A smaller part of Dearborn is in Buchanan County, which belongs to the St. Joseph, Missouri Metropolitan Area.
Dearborn's Population in 2010
According to the census from 2010, there were 496 people living in Dearborn. These people made up 234 households, and 120 of these were families. The city had about 557 people per square mile.
Most of the people living in Dearborn were White (96.4%). A small number were African American (0.4%), Native American (0.2%), or from other races. About 2.6% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
In 2010, about 26.9% of households had children under 18 living with them. Many households (41.0%) were married couples. The average age of people in Dearborn was 38.7 years. About 23.2% of residents were under 18, and 19% were 65 or older. The population was almost evenly split between males (48.6%) and females (51.4%).
Schools and Learning in Dearborn
The North Platte County R-I School District runs two schools right in Dearborn. These are North Platte Jr. High School and North Platte High School.
Dearborn also has a public library. It's a branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library, where you can find books and other resources for learning and fun.
