Deborah Chow is a talented Canadian filmmaker. She directs movies and TV shows, and also writes scripts. She's especially known for her work on the Star Wars TV series.
Her early short films, Daypass (2002) and The Hill (2004), won awards at film festivals around the world. Her first full-length movie was The High Cost of Living (2010), which she both wrote and directed.
Chow has directed many TV projects. These include the 2014 TV movie Flowers in the Attic. She also directed episodes for popular shows like Copper, Murdoch Mysteries, Reign, Beauty and the Beast, and Mr. Robot.
In 2019, Deborah Chow directed episodes for the first season of the Star Wars series The Mandalorian. She also directed all six episodes of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which came out in 2022 on Disney+.

Early Life and Education
Deborah Chow grew up in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Her parents moved there from Australia. Her father, who was Chinese, loved movies and introduced her to classic films.
She went to Gordon Graydon Memorial Secondary School in Mississauga, Ontario. Later, she studied at McGill University in Montreal. There, she earned a degree in cultural theory and art history, and made her first short film.
After McGill, she went to Columbia University's School of the Arts to get her Master of Fine Arts degree in directing. While there, she made two more short films and wrote a movie script. Her short film Daypass was shown at over 35 festivals worldwide and won many awards.
Filmmaking Career
Chow started her career by writing and directing short films while she was still studying. Her first major movie, The High Cost of Living, was released in 2010. As a film director, she has worked with well-known actors like James Urbaniak and Zach Braff.
Directing Television Shows
Deborah Chow has directed episodes for many TV shows. These include the BBC show Copper and CW shows like Reign and Beauty and the Beast. She also directed for the CBC show Murdoch Mysteries and the USA Network series Mr. Robot. In 2014, she directed the TV movie Flowers in the Attic for Lifetime, which starred Heather Graham and Kiernan Shipka.
Work on Star Wars
Chow directed two episodes of the Disney+ series Star Wars: The Mandalorian in 2019. She even had a small acting role in the show as a pilot.
Because of her great work on The Mandalorian, she was chosen to direct the entire Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney+. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said that Deborah Chow was the perfect director to tell Obi-Wan's story. She felt Chow could show the character's quiet strength and mystery, making it fit perfectly into the Star Wars universe.

In 2022, Deborah Chow directed the music video for "Black Summer". This was the first song released from the Red Hot Chili Peppers' album, Unlimited Love.
Awards and Achievements
Deborah Chow has received many awards and honors for her work. Her short film Daypass won the Best Actor Award at the Milano Film Festival and Best Short at the Turin Film Festival. The movie script version of Daypass also won an award for Best Comedy Screenplay.
In 2005, Chow won the Kodak New Vision Mentorship award for her short film The Hill. This award helped fund her first full-length movie. She also participated in special programs for filmmakers at the Berlinale Talent Campus and the Toronto International Film Festival.
Her first feature film, The High Cost of Living, won Best First Feature and was named one of the Top Ten films at the Toronto International Film Festival. It also won Best Canadian Feature at the Female Eye Film Fest. In 2022, she received the Andrew Sarris Award at the Columbia University Film Festival.
