Dechmont Law is a cool hill in Livingston, West Lothian, Scotland. It's super close to a village called Dechmont, which is where it gets its name. Locals often call it "Decky Hill" or "Dechmont Hill." (Law is an old Scottish word for "hill," by the way!) There's even another part of the hill called "Deer Hill" a bit to the northeast.
It's the tallest hill around Livingston! From the top, you can see amazing views, like Arthur's Seat and the Pentland Hills. You can also look down the beautiful Almond River valley.
How Dechmont Law Was Formed
Dechmont Law is actually a volcanic plug. This means it's the leftover core of an ancient volcano! Imagine a volcano that erupted a super long time ago. After it stopped, the soft outer parts wore away, leaving behind the hard rock that was once inside its vent.
What's the History of Dechmont Law?
People have been using Dechmont Law for a very long time! On its sides, you can still see signs of old farms, like flat steps or terraces. These were made by people living here during the Bronze Age and Iron Age, thousands of years ago.
Because of its great view, it might have been a hillfort (a fort built on a hill) in ancient times. However, archaeologists haven't found enough proof yet to be sure.
