Declo is a small city located in Cassia County, Idaho, in the United States. It is part of the area around Burley, Idaho. In 2020, about 338 people lived there. This was a small decrease from 343 people in 2010.

History of Declo
The city of Declo was not always called Declo. It was first known as Marshfield. In 1916, the name was changed. The main Post Office asked the community to pick a new name with five letters or less.
To choose the new name, they used the last initials of the first five men who entered the Post Office. These men were August Detlef, George Eldredge, Hyrum Lewis, James Cooley, and Carl Osterhout. The Post Office liked "Declo" better than "Delco," and so the city was named Declo.
The Simplot Company's Start
The J. R. Simplot Company is a very well-known company today. It was started near Declo in 1923 by a 14-year-old named J. R. Simplot. He had moved to the area with his family when he was very young. Even though the company started here, its main office is now in Boise.

If you look to the southeast of Declo, you might see a large letter "D" on a hillside. This is a special kind of landmark called a Hillside Letter. It's a fun way to mark the town from a distance!
