Deja Monét Trimble (born April 8, 1991), known as Dej Loaf, is an American rapper and singer from Detroit, Michigan. She became famous in 2014 with her song "Try Me". Her song "Back Up" (with Big Sean) was released in 2015 and sold over a million copies. This song was the first single from her first EP, ...And See That's the Thing. Both "Try Me" and "Back Up" were popular songs, reaching the top 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her first full album, Sell Sole II, came out in 2020 and got good reviews.

Early Life: Growing Up in Detroit

Deja Trimble grew up in Detroit, Michigan. As a child, she loved listening to music with her family. They listened to many different artists, including 2Pac, Rakim, and Miles Davis. Her father passed away when she was four years old.

Dej Loaf describes herself as a "good kid" who was quiet and focused on her studies. She started writing her own songs when she was just 9 years old. In 2009, she finished high school at Southeastern High School in Detroit, where she also played basketball. After high school, she went to Saginaw Valley State University to study nursing. However, after a year and a half, she decided to leave college to focus completely on her music career.

Her Music Journey: From Mixtapes to Hits

Dej Loaf began her journey as a hip hop artist in 2011. Her stage name, "Dej Loaf," comes from a shorter version of her first name, "Deja," and "loafer," because she really liked Air Jordan shoes when she was younger.

In 2013, she released her first official mixtape, Just Do It.. This mixtape caught the attention of SAYITAINTTONE, another rapper from Detroit. She soon signed with his independent record label, IBGM. In July 2014, she released the song "Try Me". This song quickly became very popular online. Even famous Canadian rapper Drake shared lyrics from her song on his Instagram.

Because of her growing popularity, Dej Loaf signed a big record deal with Columbia Records in October 2014. After that, she released her second mixtape, Sell Sole, which received great reviews from music critics.

Dej Loaf also worked with other famous artists. In 2014, she was featured on the song "Detroit vs. Everybody" from Eminem's album Shady XV. In 2015, she opened shows for Nicki Minaj on her "The Pinkprint Tour." She was also chosen as one of the top new artists for the XXL magazine 2015 Freshman Class.

She continued to release music, including the mixtape All Jokes Aside in 2016. In 2017, she released a joint mixtape called ... a Friend Zone with Jacquees.

After some delays, Dej Loaf left Columbia Records in 2019. She then released her first official album, Sell Sole II, on her own on October 23, 2020. This album is a follow-up to her 2014 mixtape Sell Sole. It features many popular artists like Big Sean, Gunna, Rick Ross, Lil Uzi Vert, and 6lack. The album received good reviews from critics. In 2021, she was also featured on Sevyn Streeter's song "Guilty" with Chris Brown and ASAP Ferg.
