Deja Monét Trimble (born April 8, 1991), known professionally as Dej Loaf, is an American rapper and singer. She is from Detroit, Michigan. Dej Loaf became well-known for her song "Try Me" in 2014. Her song "Back Up" (featuring Big Sean) was also very popular. It sold over a million copies!

Both "Try Me" and "Back Up" were big hits. They helped her first music collection, called ...And See That's the Thing, become famous. Her first full album, Sell Sole II, came out in 2020. Many people liked it, even though it didn't appear on music charts.

Early Life and Music Beginnings

Deja Trimble grew up in Detroit, Michigan. When she was a child, she loved listening to music with her family. They listened to different artists like 2Pac and Miles Davis.

Dej Loaf started writing her own songs when she was only 9 years old. She was a good student and enjoyed playing basketball in high school. After graduating, she went to college to study nursing. But after a while, she decided to follow her dream of making music full-time.

Music Career Highlights

Dej Loaf started her music career in 2011. Her stage name, Dej Loaf, comes from a shorter version of her first name, Deja. The "Loaf" part comes from her love for Air Jordan shoes when she was growing up.

In 2013, she released her first official mixtape, Just Do It.. A mixtape is like a collection of songs, often released for free online. This mixtape caught the attention of another rapper from Detroit, SAYITAINTTONE. He signed her to his record label, IBGM.

Breakthrough with "Try Me"

In July 2014, Dej Loaf released the song "Try Me". This song quickly became very popular online. Even famous Canadian rapper Drake shared lyrics from the song on his social media!

Because of her success, Dej Loaf signed a big record deal with Columbia Records in October 2014. After that, she released her second mixtape, Sell Sole. Music critics really liked it. One critic said her music was "irresistible" and praised her unique style.

Growing Fame and Collaborations

Dej Loaf also appeared on a song called "Detroit vs. Everybody" with famous rapper Eminem in 2014. In 2015, she got to open for Nicki Minaj on her "The Pinkprint Tour" across North America. That same year, XXL magazine chose her as one of their "Freshman Class" artists. This award highlights new and exciting hip hop artists.

She continued to release new music, including a mixtape called All Jokes Aside in 2016. In 2017, she released a joint mixtape with Jacquees called ... a Friend Zone.

Independent Music and Sell Sole II

After several years, Dej Loaf left Columbia Records in 2019. She then released her first official album, Sell Sole II, on October 23, 2020. This album was released independently, meaning she put it out herself.

Sell Sole II is a follow-up to her 2014 mixtape Sell Sole. The album features many other popular artists like Big Sean, Gunna, Rick Ross, Lil Uzi Vert, and 6lack. Critics gave the album good reviews, showing that many people enjoyed her new music.
