Erigeron velutipes is a small flowering plant from North America. It belongs to the daisy family. People often call it the delicate fleabane or Chihuahuan fleabane.
What is Delicate Fleabane?
This plant is a type of herb. It grows for only one year, meaning it completes its life cycle from seed to flower and then dies within a single growing season. It can grow up to 20 centimeters (about 8 inches) tall.
What Does it Look Like?
The delicate fleabane has a main root that grows straight down, called a taproot. Its flowers grow in small groups, usually 1 to 3 flower heads on each stem. Each flower head looks like a tiny daisy.
These flower heads have two main parts. The outer part has 50 to 75 white or blue "ray florets." These are like the petals you see on a daisy. The center part is made up of many small yellow "disc florets." These are the tiny flowers that form the yellow center of the daisy.
Where Does it Grow?
Erigeron velutipes is found in northern and southwestern Mexico. You can see it in states like Sonora, Nayarit, Michoacán, and Jalisco. It also grows a little bit across the United States border in Santa Cruz County, Arizona. This plant likes to grow in wet places, especially near natural springs.
