Playing for the Michigan Wolverines
Demetrius Calip went to the University of Michigan. He played basketball for their team, the Wolverines. He helped his team win a very important championship. This was the 1989 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship. This is a huge college basketball tournament.
A Champion Team
Demetrius was part of the 1988–1989 National Champion team. He played alongside many talented teammates. Some of these players became very well-known. They included Glen Rice, Terry Mills, and Rumeal Robinson. Another teammate was Rob Pelinka, who later became a general manager in the NBA.
Leading the Team
Later, during the 1990–91 season, Demetrius was a key player. He led his team in several important areas. He scored the most points for the Wolverines. He also had the most assists, meaning he helped his teammates score. Plus, he played the most minutes in games. Other teammates from this time included Eric Riley and Gary Grant. The team was coached by Joe Czupek.
