Terry Richard Mills, born on December 21, 1967, is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He played as a power forward. Terry was a key player for the Michigan Wolverines team that won the 1989 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men's Division I Basketball Championship. After his college success, he played for more than ten years in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

College Basketball Career

Terry Mills had an amazing high school career at Romulus High School. In 1986, he was named Mr. Basketball of Michigan, which is a big honor for a high school player.

Mills then went to the University of Michigan. There, he helped the Wolverines basketball team win the 1989 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship. This was a huge achievement for the team.

In January 2009, Terry Mills joined the 20th-anniversary celebration of that 1989 championship team. He had recently finished his college degree from Michigan. At that time, he was looking to start a career in coaching basketball.

NBA Career Highlights

Terry Mills was chosen in the 1990 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. His rights were later traded to the Denver Nuggets, where he played 17 games. Over his career, Mills also played for the New Jersey Nets, Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat, and Indiana Pacers.

Even though he played as a power forward, Terry Mills became well-known for his excellent 3-point shooting. The famous announcer for the Detroit Pistons, George Blaha, gave him two cool nicknames. He called him "Sugar Bear" because of his "sweet" (meaning smooth and accurate) shooting style. He also called him "Three Mills" because he was so good at making three-point shots.

Coaching and Personal Life

After his playing career, Terry Mills became a coach. He was the head coach for the International Basketball League's Macomb County Mustangs team during the 2006 season. The Mustangs were based in Center Line, Michigan.

Terry Mills is related to other basketball players. He is the cousin of former NBA power forward Grant Long. He is also the nephew of shooting guard John Long.

Today, Terry Mills lives in Michigan. He works as a radio color analyst for University of Michigan Basketball games. You can hear his commentary on the Michigan Sports Marketing Network. He also enjoys participating in amateur drag racing.
