Early Life and College Football
Demone Harris grew up in Buffalo, New York. He went to Bishop Timon – St. Jude High School. Interestingly, he focused on basketball there. He didn't even start playing football until his junior year of high school!
After high school, Harris attended the University at Buffalo. He joined the football team as a "walk-on." This means he joined the team without a scholarship at first. He also "redshirted" his first year. This means he practiced with the team but didn't play in games. It allowed him to gain experience without using up a year of his college playing time.
In 2017, during his junior year, Harris played really well. He was named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team. This is a special honor for top players in his college league.
Professional Football Journey
Demone Harris began his professional football career in 2018. He has played for several teams in the NFL.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
In 2018, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Harris. He joined them as an undrafted free agent. This means he wasn't chosen in the NFL draft but was signed afterward. He first joined their "practice squad." This is a group of players who practice with the team but aren't on the main roster.
Later that year, he was moved to the active roster. He made his NFL debut on October 14, 2018. He played in a game against the Atlanta Falcons. He stayed with the Buccaneers until October 2019.
Baltimore Ravens
After leaving the Buccaneers, Harris joined the Baltimore Ravens. He was signed to their practice squad in October 2019. He spent a short time with the Ravens.
Kansas City Chiefs
In November 2019, Harris moved to the Kansas City Chiefs. He was signed from the Ravens' practice squad. He played his first game for the Chiefs on December 8, 2019. In that game, he made his first career tackle.
The biggest moment for Harris with the Chiefs came on February 2, 2020. He and the Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV! They beat the San Francisco 49ers 31–20. This was a huge achievement for Harris and the team.
He continued to play for the Chiefs in the 2020 and 2021 seasons. He was often on the practice squad but was sometimes called up to play in games.
Houston Texans
In November 2021, Harris joined the Houston Texans. He was signed to their practice squad. He later signed a contract to stay with the Texans in 2022. He played in some games for them that season.
In August 2023, Harris was released by the Texans. He then announced that he was retiring from the NFL.
Atlanta Falcons
However, Demone Harris's retirement didn't last long! In August 2023, he decided to come back to football. He signed with the Atlanta Falcons. He was waived (released) by the Falcons briefly but re-signed to their practice squad in September 2023.
In January 2024, he signed a new contract with the Falcons. He was released again in August 2024 but re-signed to the practice squad. In November 2024, he was promoted to the active roster.
