Denison's History
The area now known as Denison has an interesting past. It was once the location of another community called Buckeye, Washington. A post office, which is a place where mail is handled, operated there from 1891 to 1892.
However, a lumber company named Buckeye moved to a different spot. This caused some confusion for workers. So, for a short time, this original location was called Pratt (also from 1891 to 1892).
Later, the site was given a new name: Denison. A post office reopened here in 1908 and stayed open until 1967. The name "Denison" comes from the maiden name of an early settler's wife.
In the 1990s, Denison started to become a residential area. A neighborhood called Denison Estates was built, with many single-family homes. The water for this community came from the Public Utility District in nearby Stevens County.
