Dennis Jonathan Alas Morales (born January 10, 1985, in San Salvador) is a former Salvadoran footballer, also known as a soccer player. He was a midfielder who played for several clubs and for the El Salvador national football team. In 2013, he was permanently stopped from playing professional football due to serious rule-breaking concerning how games were played.
Dennis is the older brother of Jaime Alas, who also plays for the El Salvador national football team.
Playing for Clubs
Dennis Alas, nicknamed Pitbull, started his football journey at Academia La Chelona. He joined San Salvador F.C. in 2001, where he began his professional career.
After showing his skills in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, Alas had a chance to train with MLS club CD Chivas USA. However, he returned to El Salvador. On December 27, 2007, he signed a one-year contract with USL-2 team Real Maryland F.C.. He played 14 games and scored 3 goals for them. He was even named USL-2 Player of the Week once.
When his club, San Salvador F.C., moved down to El Salvador’s second division, Dennis Alas was able to leave. He then joined the Salvadoran champions, C.D. Luís Ángel Firpo.
In September 2014, Alas joined KF Feronikeli in Kosovo. This was possible because the Football Superleague of Kosovo was not officially recognized by FIFA at that time. Other Salvadoran players who were also stopped from playing professional football joined leagues not recognized by FIFA.
Playing for His Country
Dennis Alas first played for the El Salvador national football team in October 2001 against Mexico. By August 2011, he had played 63 games for his country and scored 3 goals.
He represented El Salvador in 7 FIFA World Cup qualification matches. He also played in several UNCAF Cups and the 2007, 2009, and 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournaments.
On June 7, 2007, he scored the winning goal against Trinidad and Tobago. This goal gave El Salvador their first win in the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament. That night, he was named the Miller Light Player Of The Match by Univision.
On September 20, 2013, Dennis Alas was one of 14 Salvadoran players who were permanently stopped from playing professional football. This decision was made because of their involvement in serious rule-breaking concerning how games were played.
