Dennis Alas's Club Career
Dennis Alas was known as Pitbull on the field. He started playing football at a young age, learning the game at Academia La Chelona. In 2001, he joined the professional team San Salvador F.C..
After showing his skills at the CONCACAF Gold Cup, Dennis got the chance to train with an MLS team in the United States, CD Chivas USA. However, he did not join that team and returned to El Salvador. On December 27, 2007, he signed a one-year contract with USL-2 team Real Maryland F.C..
On July 14, 2008, Dennis and Real Maryland F.C. agreed to end his contract early. He played 14 games for them and scored 3 goals. He was even chosen as the USL-2 Player of the Week once for scoring two goals in a game. Dennis was playing for Real Maryland on a temporary agreement from his old club, San Salvador F.C..
When San Salvador F.C. moved to a lower division, Dennis was free to join a new team. He decided to play for the Salvadoran champions, C.D. Luís Ángel Firpo.
In September 2014, Dennis joined KF Feronikeli in Kosovo. This was possible because the league in Kosovo was not officially recognized by FIFA, the world's football governing body. This allowed him to play even after his previous issues. Other Salvadoran players who faced similar situations also joined teams in leagues not recognized by FIFA.
Dennis Alas's International Career
Dennis Alas first played for the El Salvador national football team in October 2001, in a friendly game against Mexico. By August 2011, he had played 63 games for his country and scored 3 goals. He played in 7 FIFA World Cup qualification matches, trying to help El Salvador reach the World Cup. He also played in several UNCAF Cups and the 2007, 2009, and 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournaments.
On June 7, 2007, Dennis scored the winning goal against Trinidad and Tobago in the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup. This goal gave El Salvador their first win in that tournament. After the game, he was named the Miller Light Player Of The Match by Univision.
Later, on September 20, 2013, Dennis Alas and 13 other Salvadoran players were prevented from playing professional football again. This decision was made because they were involved in match fixing, which means trying to unfairly change the outcome of games.
