Where is Depot Hill?
Depot Hill is located about one kilometre south of Rockhampton's main city area. It is close to the Fitzroy River. Because of this, the area can sometimes experience flooding.
The North Coast railway line runs through the suburb. This line also leads to the Rockhampton Railway Workshops in the northern part of Depot Hill.

Important Dates in Depot Hill
Depot Hill State School first opened its doors on 14 September 1920.
In 1932, the Wood Street Baptist Church began at 10 Wood Street.
Later, on 13 March 1949, the Mary Immaculate Catholic Church was officially opened. This church building had an interesting past. It was originally a Catholic church in Westwood. It was then moved to 81 Wood Street in Depot Hill. This church is now closed and is privately owned.

Learning in Depot Hill
Depot Hill State School is a government primary school. It teaches students from Prep to Year 6. The school is located on O'Connell Street. In 2017, 47 students attended the school.
The school was supposed to celebrate its 100th birthday in 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the celebrations were moved to 2021. A special weekend of events took place in September 2021. This included a dinner and celebrations at the school. There were market stalls, old photos on display, and tours of classrooms. Former students even had a special roll call. The local MP, Barry O'Rourke, also opened the school's new sports court.
In 2021, the school had 58 students enrolled.
There isn't a high school directly in Depot Hill. The closest public high school is Rockhampton State High School in Wandal. For private secondary education, The Cathedral College in Allenstown is nearby.
