Deron Timothy Quint (born March 12, 1976) is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman. He played for many teams during his long career. These included teams in the National Hockey League (NHL) and in European leagues. He was known for his strong defense and scoring ability.

Playing Career

Deron Quint started playing hockey when he was young. He even played in the famous Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament in 1989 and 1990. This tournament is a big deal for young hockey players.

Drafted into the NHL

In 1994, Deron was picked by the Winnipeg Jets in the NHL Draft. He was the 30th player chosen overall. He joined the Jets for the 1995–96 season. During this season, he tied an NHL record by scoring two goals in just four seconds! This was a very rare and exciting achievement.

The next season, the Winnipeg Jets team moved and became the Phoenix Coyotes. Deron stayed with the Coyotes until 2000. He then played for the New Jersey Devils for a short time. Later that year, he joined the new team, the Columbus Blue Jackets. He played two seasons there and was a key player. After that, he returned to the Coyotes for a season. He also played for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Playing in Europe

In 2004, the NHL had a lockout, meaning no games were played. During this time, Deron went to Europe to play. He played for teams in Italy and Switzerland.

In 2005, Deron joined Eisbären Berlin in Germany's top league. He had great success there, helping them win three league championships in four seasons! He was a star player and was even named the DEL Defenseman of the Year in 2008. He also played in the DEL All-Star game three times.

For a short period in 2007, he returned to the NHL to play five games for the New York Islanders. He helped them reach the playoffs before going back to Germany.

Success in Russia

After his time in Germany, Deron moved to Russia to play in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He played for several KHL teams, including HC Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk, Traktor Chelyabinsk, HC Spartak Moscow, and HC CSKA Moscow.

He set a record for the most goals scored by a KHL defenseman in the 2010–11 season. He was also chosen for the KHL All-Star team twice. Deron played over 400 games for Traktor Chelyabinsk, which is the most by any North American player. He won silver and bronze medals with Traktor in the KHL.

In 2016, Deron made history again. At 39 years old, he became the oldest hockey player to play in an official game for Traktor Chelyabinsk.
