Henry Dermot Ponsonby Moore, who is the 12th Earl of Drogheda, was born on January 14, 1937. He is a British photographer known by his professional name, Derry Moore. He became the Earl of Drogheda after his father, The 11th Earl of Drogheda, passed away. Before becoming an Earl in 1989, he was known by the special title of Viscount Moore.

About Derry Moore
Early Life and Education
Henry Dermot Ponsonby Moore was born in London on January 14, 1937. He came from an important family with roots in both England and Ireland. His parents were Charles Garrett Ponsonby Moore, the 11th Earl of Drogheda, and Joan Eleanor Carr.
He went to school at Eton and then to Trinity College, Cambridge, just like his father. After college, he studied painting at Oskar Kokoschka's School of Seeing in Salzburg, Austria. He briefly worked as a travel agent in New York City. Later, he learned photography from the famous British photographer Bill Brandt.
Starting His Photography Career
Derry Moore began his professional photography career in 1973. His first big job was for an American magazine called Architectural Digest. He quickly became known for his talent.
In 1992, he took a famous picture of The Princess of Wales, Prince William, and Prince Harry. This portrait was taken at Kensington Palace and was used by the Princess on her Christmas cards that year.
Famous People He Photographed
Lord Drogheda has photographed many well-known people. These include Queen Elizabeth II, the late Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, and important leaders like Indira Gandhi and Ronald Reagan. He also photographed celebrities such as David Bowie, Iman, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Helena Bonham Carter.
He became a top photographer for the insides of buildings, known as architectural interiors. He also illustrated many books. His portraits have been featured in popular magazines like Country Life and Vogue. The National Portrait Gallery in London has thirty-seven of his portraits in its collection.
In London, he hosted an event to launch his book Venetian Gardens. He wrote this book with the TV presenter Monty Don. Many people from the art, literature, and media worlds attended the event.

Personal Life
Lord Drogheda has been married two times.
His first wife was Eliza Winn Lloyd. They married on May 15, 1968, and divorced in 1972. Eliza was the daughter of Stacy Barcroft Lloyd Jr. and Rachel Lambert. She was also the stepdaughter of Paul Mellon, a famous American banker and art collector. Eliza's great-grandfather, Jordan Wheat Lambert, helped invent Listerine mouthwash. At their wedding, Caroline Kennedy was a flower girl, and John F. Kennedy Jr. was a page. Derry Moore and Eliza did not have any children together.
His second wife is Alexandra Nicolette Henderson. She is the daughter of British diplomat Sir Nicholas Henderson and Mary Barber. They got married in Paris in 1978. They have three children:
- Benjamin Garrett Henderson Moore, who is Viscount Moore (born 1983)
- The Honourable Garrett Alexander Moore (born 1986)
- Lady Marina Alice Moore (born 1988)
Alexandra Henderson, also known as Lady Drogheda, has worked as a producer and editor for news and current affairs at the BBC.
