Des Lacs is a small city in Ward County, North Dakota, in the United States. In 2020, about 185 people lived there. It is part of the larger Minot area.
Des Lacs was started in 1888. Its name comes from a French phrase, Riviere de Lacs, which means "River of The Lakes." This river is now called the Des Lacs River.

Getting Around
The Amtrak train called the Empire Builder goes through Des Lacs. This train travels between Seattle or Portland and Chicago. However, the train does not stop in Des Lacs. The closest train station is in Minot, which is about 14 miles (22.5 km) to the east.
Schools in Des Lacs
Des Lacs shares its school system with the nearby city of Burlington.
- Students in kindergarten through sixth grade go to school in Burlington. This is where the elementary school is located.
- Students in seventh through twelfth grade attend Des Lacs-Burlington High School in Des Lacs.
The school district is called United Public School District 7. Students from Des Lacs meet at the high school to catch their buses. Burlington students meet at the elementary school for their buses.
