Detroit Beach is a small community located in Monroe County, Michigan, in the United States. It is known as a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's an area identified by the government for statistics, but it doesn't have its own local government. In 2020, about 1,957 people lived here. Detroit Beach is part of Frenchtown Charter Township. Students in Detroit Beach attend schools in the Jefferson Schools district.

History of Detroit Beach

The community of Detroit Beach was started in 1923 by a company called the Industrial Development Company. They named it "Detroit Beach" to attract people from the larger city of Detroit to buy land and homes there.

Geography of Detroit Beach

Detroit Beach is located in Frenchtown Charter Township. It sits right on the shores of Lake Erie, one of the Great Lakes. It's about 3 miles (4.8 km) northeast of the city of Monroe.

The area of Detroit Beach is bordered by South Grove Drive to the northeast and North Dixie Highway to the northwest. To the southwest, you'll find the Sandy Creek and Sterling State Park. While Detroit Beach is the main community, this area also includes parts of Frenchtown Harbor and a small section called Grand Beach. Another community, Woodland Beach, is located just to the northeast.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the total area of Detroit Beach is about 0.66 square miles (1.71 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 0.62 square miles (1.61 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.04 square miles (0.10 square kilometers), is water, mainly from Lake Erie.
