What is Devil Mountain Made Of?

Devil Mountain is built on a type of rock called Nipissing diabase. This rock formed a very long time ago, about 2.2 billion years ago!

Ancient Rock Formations

This ancient rock is part of a huge area of magmatic rock. Think of magma as super-hot melted rock deep inside the Earth. When it cools and hardens, it forms rocks like diabase.

This large rock area stretches far across the land. It goes almost 450 kilometers (280 miles) from east to west. It also extends up to 350 kilometers (217 miles) from north to south. That's a massive amount of ancient rock!
