Diego el Cigala facts for kids
Diego Ramón Jiménez Salazar (born in Madrid, 27 December 1968), known as El Cigala (Castillan for 'Langoustine'), is a famous Spanish Romani Flamenco singer. He also has citizenship in the Dominican Republic.
El Cigala grew up in Madrid in a family of Romani artists. He started his singing career in flamenco clubs. Soon, talented flamenco dancers like Mario Maya and Joaquín Cortés noticed his amazing voice. He then began touring with their dance companies, along with guitarist Antón Jiménez.
By the late 1990s, El Cigala had worked with other famous musicians such as Camarón de la Isla, Tomatito, Gerardo Núñez, and Vicente Amigo. He then released his first album, "Undebel." Since then, he has released many more albums. He has won two Grammy awards and has been nominated for five Latin Grammy awards.
In 2010, El Cigala even lent his voice to a popular movie character! He voiced Buzz Lightyear for the Spanish version of Toy Story 3, using a special accent from Andalusia.
