Dietmar ("Didi") Kühbauer is a well-known Austrian football manager and former player. He was born on April 4, 1971. Didi played as a midfielder during his career. Today, he is the head coach for the Austrian Bundesliga club Wolfsberger AC.

Playing Career: Didi's Journey on the Field
Dietmar Kühbauer started his professional football journey in Heiligenkreuz, Burgenland. He joined Admira Wacker and made his first appearance in the Austrian Football Bundesliga in 1987. He was only 16 years old at the time!
After five years with Admira Wacker, Didi moved to Rapid Wien. This is where he became a true fan favorite. With Rapid Wien, he helped the team win a league title and a domestic cup. He also played in the 1996 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final in Brussels. Rapid Wien lost that match, but Didi's performance was still remembered. In 1999, he was even named to the club's Team of the Century.
In 1997, Kühbauer decided to play abroad. He joined La Liga team Real Sociedad in Spain. Later, in 2000, he moved to Germany to play for Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg. Two years after that, he returned to Austria. He joined his childhood club, SV Mattersburg, where he played until he retired in 2008.
Playing for Austria: International Matches
Dietmar Kühbauer also played for the Austrian national team. His first international game was in May 1992 against Poland. He was part of the Austrian team that played in the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
Throughout his international career, Didi played in 55 matches for Austria. He scored 5 goals for his country. He announced his retirement from international football on September 4, 2005. His last game for Austria was a World Cup qualification match against Poland.
Coaching Career: Leading the Teams
After retiring as a player, Dietmar Kühbauer started his coaching career. On November 18, 2008, he became the head coach for Trenkwalder Admira II. In 2010, he took over as coach of the main team, FC Admira Mödling. He successfully led them to be promoted to the Austrian Football Bundesliga.
From September 2013 to November 2015, Kühbauer was the coach of Wolfsberger AC. He then had a short time at SKN St. Pölten in 2018. On October 1, 2018, he returned to his former club, Rapid Wien, this time as their head coach. He stayed with Rapid Wien until November 2021.
In May 2022, Kühbauer became the head coach of LASK. He helped the team improve a lot. In the 2022–23 season, he led LASK to a third-place finish in the league. This meant they could play in European competitions again! However, he left LASK in June 2023 due to different ideas about how to plan the team.
In May 2024, it was announced that Dietmar Kühbauer would return to Wolfsberger AC as their head coach. He started this role for the 2024–25 season. On May 1, 2025, Didi made history with Wolfsberger AC. He guided them to win their first-ever Austrian Cup title! They won 1–0 against TSV Hartberg.
Personal Life: A Difficult Time
In 1997, Dietmar Kühbauer went through a very tough time in his personal life. After this difficult period, he decided to leave Austria and start a new chapter in his football career abroad with Real Sociedad.
