The word "Ditton" comes from a British family name. It was also the name of a large village in Kent, England. This name is used for other rivers in Quebec too. These include the Ditton River and the Ditton West River.
Official Name
The name "Rivière Ditton Est" (Ditton East River) became official on December 5, 1968. This was decided by the Commission de toponymie du Québec. This commission is in charge of naming places in Quebec.
