The Ditton West River is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the Ditton River, which is part of the larger Salmon River system. This river is found in the town of Chartierville, within the Le Haut-Saint-François Regional County Municipality in the Estrie region.
The main activity in this river valley is forestry, which means cutting down trees for wood. Farming is also important, especially closer to where the river ends.
The Ditton West River usually freezes over from mid-December to mid-March. However, it's generally safe to walk or play on the ice only from late December to early March. Some parts with fast-moving water might not freeze completely.

River's Journey
The Ditton West River starts in southern Quebec, in an area called Emberton township. Its source is a small mountain lake southwest of the village of Chartierville. This spot is also north of Mont Prospect, a mountain on the border between Quebec and New Hampshire in the USA. It's also north of the "Connecticut Lakes Natural Area" in New Hampshire.
From its start, the Ditton West River flows north for about 7 kilometers (4.3 miles). During this journey, it drops about 91 meters (298 feet) in elevation. It crosses Chemin Saint-Paul, a road connecting Chartierville to a small community called "Bellefeuille." Then, it turns northeast and crosses Route 257.
The Ditton West River finally joins the Ditton River on its west side. This meeting point is east of Route Saint-Jean-Baptiste, which is also known as Route 257.

The name "Ditton" comes from a family name that originated in Britain.
The word "Ditton" is also the name of an important village and civil parish in Kent, England. This name is used in Quebec for other rivers too, like the Ditton East River and the main Ditton River.
The official name "Rivière Ditton Ouest" was formally recognized on December 5, 1968, by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which is the organization in Quebec responsible for naming places.
