Doghole Lake is a cool lake located in a wild part of Ontario, Canada. It's found in the Kenora District, which is in the northwestern area of the province. This lake is special because it's the starting point for the Doghole River. The river then travels a long way, eventually reaching a huge body of water called James Bay.

Where is Doghole Lake?

Doghole Lake is in a remote area of Northwestern Ontario. It's part of the Unorganized Kenora District. This means it's not part of a specific town or city. The lake sits about 377 meters (or about 1,237 feet) above sea level. It stretches about 4.3 kilometers (2.7 miles) long. It is also about 3.1 kilometers (1.9 miles) wide.

Water's Journey: In and Out

Lakes are often part of a bigger water system. Doghole Lake gets its water from an unnamed river. This river flows into Doghole Lake from another lake called Annimwash Lake. So, Doghole Lake is like a stop along a watery path.

Connecting to James Bay

The water from Doghole Lake doesn't stay put. It flows out through the Doghole River. This river then empties into Lake St. Joseph. From there, the water continues its journey through the Albany River. Finally, all this water makes its way to James Bay. James Bay is a large body of water that is part of Hudson Bay. This whole system is called the James Bay drainage basin. It means all the water in this area eventually flows into James Bay.

Living by the Lake

A big part of Doghole Lake is located within the Mishkeegogamang First Nation Osnaburgh Indian Reserve No. 63B. A First Nation is one of the Indigenous peoples of Canada. Their main community is on the eastern shore of the lake. This community is right next to Ontario Highway 599. This highway helps connect the community to other places.
