He played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for a short time. He also played in the NBA Development League, which is now called the G-League. Besides the U.S., he played basketball in countries like Canada, Latvia, and Saudi Arabia. He also played college basketball for the Arkansas Razorbacks and Atlanta Metropolitan College.

Dontell Jefferson's College Basketball Journey
Dontell Jefferson started his college basketball journey at Atlanta Metropolitan College. This is a type of junior college. He played there for two years. After that, he moved to the University of Arkansas. He played for the Arkansas Razorbacks in the 2004–05 and 2005–06 seasons. In 2006, he was the team leader in assists. An assist is when a player passes the ball to a teammate who then scores. He also played in the 2006 NCAA Men's Tournament. This is a big tournament where college teams compete to be the national champion.
Dontell Jefferson's Professional Career
After finishing college, Dontell Jefferson hoped to join the NBA. However, he was not chosen in the 2006 NBA draft. The NBA draft is where professional teams pick new players.
Playing in the NBA
Even though he wasn't drafted, Dontell still made it to the NBA. On March 11, 2009, he signed a special 10-day contract with the Charlotte Bobcats. This means he played for them for ten days. He played well enough that they signed him for another ten days. After that, he signed a contract to play for the rest of the 2008–09 NBA season. He played six games for the Bobcats. On October 22, 2009, the Bobcats decided to let him go.
Playing in the NBA Development League
Dontell spent a lot of his career in the NBA Development League. This league helps players get better and hopefully join an NBA team. In 2012, the Reno Bighorns picked him in the NBA D-League Draft. Later, on February 22, 2013, he was traded to the Austin Toros. He also played for other D-League teams like the Dakota Wizards, Utah Flash, Idaho Stampede, and Sioux Falls Skyforce.
Playing Basketball Around the World
Dontell Jefferson also played basketball in many different countries. In 2008, he played for Barons LMT in Latvia. In 2011, he played for the Quebec Kebs in Canada.
He also played in the Middle East. In April 2014, he signed with Al Hilal in Libya. Later that year, in July 2014, he joined Al Ahly in Qatar for the 2014–2015 season. In January 2016, he signed with Qatar Club, also in Qatar.
In August 2016, Dontell moved to Saudi Arabia. He signed with Al Fateh for the 2016–2017 season. He did very well there! He was named "Swingman of the Year" and was part of the "First Team All Saudi Arabian team." A swingman is a player who can play both shooting guard and small forward. He returned to play for Al Fateh again in November 2017.
