Doty is a small community in Washington. It is not a city, but an unincorporated community. This means it does not have its own local government. About 250 people live in or near Doty.
You can find Doty about 1.3 miles west of Dryad. It is also 5 miles east of Pe Ell on Washington State Route 6. Doty has a general store, a post office, and a fire department. There are also two churches. Most people in Doty work in logging or farming.

History of Doty
Doty got its name from Chauncey A. Doty. He built a sawmill in the area around the year 1900. A community grew up around this sawmill. At one time, Doty had the biggest sawmill in Lewis County.
Culture and Historic Places
Doty was once home to the Doty Bridge. This was a special covered railroad bridge. It was one of the last of its kind in Washington state. The bridge was even listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This list recognizes important historical sites. However, its special status was removed in 1990.
Fun Activities and Nature
Many people in Doty enjoy the annual Pe Ell River Run. This event has been happening since 1978. People build or buy water crafts. Then they float down the Chehalis River. The journey goes from Pe Ell to Rainbow Falls State Park. At the park, riders can float over a small waterfall. This waterfall was left after big floods in 2007.
The Willapa Hills Trail also goes through the Doty area. This trail is great for walking, biking, or even horseback riding.
Doty's Climate
Doty has a type of weather called a warm-summer Mediterranean climate. This means the summers are warm but not too hot. They are also usually dry. The average monthly temperature never goes above 71.6 degrees Fahrenheit. On climate maps, this weather type is called "Csb."
