Douglas Martin (born January 13, 1989) is a former American football player. He was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for seven seasons. Doug played college football for the Boise State Broncos. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers chose him in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft. He also played for the Oakland Raiders.

Early Life and High School Football

Doug Martin was born in Oakland, California. He grew up in Stockton, California. There, he went to St. Mary's High School. Doug was a talented athlete in both football and track.

High School Football Achievements

As a junior, he ran for 1,950 yards. He also scored 18 touchdowns. This earned him top honors from local newspapers. In his senior year, Doug rushed for 1,234 yards. He scored 14 touchdowns and was named his team's Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Track and Field Skills

Doug also showed his speed in track and field. He ran the 100-meter dash in 11.15 seconds. He also had impressive jumps. These included a 6.69-meter long jump and a 13.20-meter triple jump.

Doug chose to play college football at Boise State. He committed to the team in December 2006.

First Seasons at Boise State

Doug played his first college game in September 2007. In 2008, he had 107 rushing yards. He also returned kicks for 223 yards.

Expanding Role in 2009

In 2009, Doug's role grew. He scored two rushing touchdowns against the Miami RedHawks. He rushed for 116 yards against Bowling Green. Later, he had 112 rushing yards against Tulsa. He had two games with four rushing touchdowns. Overall, he finished 2009 with 769 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.

In his first NFL game, Doug had 95 rushing yards. He scored his first professional touchdown in his second game. On October 25, he rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown. He also caught a touchdown pass.

A week later, he had an amazing game against the Oakland Raiders. He rushed for 251 yards. He also tied an NFL record by scoring four rushing touchdowns in one half. He was the first NFL player to have touchdown runs of 70-plus, 45-plus, and 65-plus yards in a single game. This historic performance earned him the NFC Offensive Player of the Week award.

Doug finished his rookie season with over 1,450 rushing yards. He also had nearly 500 receiving yards. His 1,926 total yards from scrimmage were the second-most in Buccaneers' history. He broke the team's rookie rushing record. He was nominated for NFL Rookie of the Year. He also earned a Pro Bowl selection. He was named to the NFL All-Rookie Team.

2013 and 2014 Seasons

On October 4, he rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown. A week later, he had 123 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He also caught a receiving touchdown. He followed this with 136 rushing yards. In Week 11, he ran for 235 yards.

Doug finished the 2015 season with 1,402 rushing yards. He also had six rushing touchdowns. This amazing season earned him his second Pro Bowl selection. He was also named a First-team All-Pro. This made him the first Buccaneers running back to achieve this honor.

2016 and 2017 Seasons

In March 2016, Doug signed a new five-year contract with the Buccaneers. However, his performance in 2016 was not as strong. He finished with 421 rushing yards. He missed some games due to a league rule violation.

In 2017, Doug played in 11 games. He rushed for 406 yards. In February 2018, the Buccaneers released Doug after six seasons.

Oakland Raiders

In March 2018, Doug signed a one-year contract with the Oakland Raiders. When the starting running back was injured, Doug took over. He had his best game in Week 16. 2019 Season

Doug Martin cared about giving back to the community. In December 2012, he visited children at All Children's Hospital. He also sang holiday carols to older residents at a retirement home.
