History of Downtown Evansville
When Evansville was first planned, its downtown area was about 200 acres. The streets were laid out in a special way. Some streets run parallel to the river, from northwest to southeast. Other streets run straight north-south and east-west. This can make it a bit tricky to navigate sometimes!
In the 1970s, the city faced some challenges. People and businesses started moving away from the downtown area. But since then, the city has worked hard to make downtown better. They have done many projects to bring new life and activity back to the area.
