Downtown West is a lively neighborhood right in the heart of Minneapolis, Minnesota. It's known for its many tall buildings, which are mostly offices where people work. When most people in Minneapolis think of "downtown," they are thinking of Downtown West! It's part of a bigger area called the Central community.

Downtown West is the main part of downtown Minneapolis. It has many of the city's tallest office buildings. This neighborhood is split into two parts for local government. These parts are called Wards 3 and 7. They are represented by Michael Rainville and Katie Cashman. They are members of the Minneapolis City Council.
Where is Downtown West?
This neighborhood is located in the central part of Minneapolis. It has clear boundaries that help you know where it starts and ends.
- To the southwest, it's bordered by 12th Street.
- To the northwest, you'll find 3rd Avenue North, Washington Avenue North, and Hennepin Avenue.
- The beautiful Mississippi River forms its border to the northeast.
- To the southeast, it's next to Portland Avenue, 5th Street South, and 5th Avenue South.
Downtown West is surrounded by other neighborhoods. These include the North Loop, Nicollet Island/East Bank, Downtown East, Elliot Park, and Loring Park.
Famous Buildings in Downtown West
Downtown West is home to some of Minneapolis's most famous buildings. Two of these are the Foshay Tower and the IDS Center. These tall buildings are important landmarks in the city.
