Dregen's Music Journey
Dregen started the rock band Backyard Babies in 1987. He formed it with his friends Tobias Fischer, Peder Carlsson, and Johan Blomqvist in their hometown of Nässjö. Later, the band moved to Stockholm to find more success. They signed a record deal and released their first album, Diesel & Power, in 1994.
Also in 1994, Dregen met singer and guitarist Nicke Andersson. Nicke was playing drums for a band called Entombed at the time. Together, Dregen and Nicke formed another band, The Hellacopters. This band became very popular in 1996 with their album Supershitty to the Max!. This album even won a Swedish music award called a Grammis.
In 1997, The Hellacopters released another album, Payin' the Dues. They also got to tour with the legendary band KISS. In the same year, Backyard Babies released their second album, Total 13, which also won a Grammis award.
By the end of the 1990s, Dregen decided to leave The Hellacopters. He then focused completely on recording and performing with Backyard Babies.
In 2001, Backyard Babies released the album Making Enemies Is Good. This album earned them a second Grammis award. The band toured all over the world many times. They even opened shows for the famous rock band AC/DC during a tour in Europe.
Since then, Backyard Babies have released several more albums. These include Stockholm Syndrome, People Like People Like People Like Us, and Backyard Babies. In 2010, they celebrated their anniversary with a tour, and then the band announced they would take a break.
In May 2011, Dregen joined the band of Hanoi Rocks frontman Michael Monroe. Michael Monroe said that Dregen was "the perfect choice" for his band. He praised Dregen as a "killer guitarist" and a "brilliant showman."
In July 2011, Dregen began working on his first solo album. The album, simply titled Dregen, was released on September 25, 2013. In 2016, Dregen reunited with The Hellacopters to celebrate 20 years since their first album. In 2022, The Hellacopters released their first new album in 16 years, called Eyes Of Oblivion.
