How Duck Donuts Started and Grew
Duck Donuts was founded by Russell "Russ" DiGilio and Robin Griffith in 2006. Russ DiGilio wanted to create a place where people could get warm, fresh doughnuts made just for them. Before Duck Donuts, there were no doughnut shops in the Outer Banks area of North Carolina.
The very first Duck Donuts shop opened in a town called Duck, North Carolina. This is where the company got its unique name! Soon after, more shops opened in nearby towns like Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Corolla.
For about five years, Duck Donuts stayed mainly in the Outer Banks. But many people wanted to open their own Duck Donuts shops. So, in 2013, the company started offering franchises. This meant other people could open Duck Donuts stores in new places.
The first franchise opened in Williamsburg, Virginia. After that, Duck Donuts began to expand quickly. New shops popped up in states like Florida, New Jersey, and Georgia. By 2018, Duck Donuts had opened its first stores in New York and California. In 2020, they even opened a shop in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, and their first international store in Dubai, UAE.
Giving Back to the Community
Duck Donuts believes in helping others. They have a special program called "Quack Gives Back." In March 2017, Duck Donuts worked with a group called Gabe's Chemo Duck Program. This program helps children who are battling cancer.
