A Look at Dudley's History
Dudley started as a town in 1891. This was when a railroad line was built to reach that area. The city was named after Dudley Mays Hughes, who was a well-known senator.
Where is Dudley Located?
Dudley is found in the western part of Laurens County. You can find its exact spot using these coordinates: 32°32′18″N 83°4′34″W / 32.53833°N 83.07611°W.
Roads and Travel
U.S. Route 80 runs just north of the city center. This road can take you about 10 miles (16 km) east to Dublin, which is the main city of the county. If you go west on Route 80, you'll reach Montrose in about 5 miles (8 km).
Interstate 16 also goes through the southern part of Dudley. You can get on or off this highway at Exit 42. I-16 leads about 40 miles (64 km) northwest to Macon. If you head east on I-16, you'll travel about 125 miles (201 km) to Savannah.
Land and Water
Dudley covers a total area of about 3.42 square miles (8.9 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. Only a tiny part, about 0.01 square miles (0.03 square kilometers), is water.
The northern part of Dudley drains into Turkey Creek. This creek flows east and joins the Oconee River. The southern part of the city drains into Little Rocky Creek, which then flows into Rocky Creek. Rocky Creek is also a branch of Turkey Creek.
