Dunkirk's Story: A Look Back
Dunkirk was officially planned and mapped out in 1852. This happened when the railroad tracks reached that area. The village was named after another place called Dunkirk, New York. A post office opened in Dunkirk, Ohio, in 1854. This meant people could send and receive mail easily.
In 2006, the Ohio Department of Transportation looked at Dunkirk. They thought it could be a good spot for a railway junction. This was part of a bigger plan for a high-speed rail project in Ohio.
