Where is Dycusburg?
Dycusburg is located in the southern part of Crittenden County. It sits right on the east bank of the Cumberland River. This river is a big part of the area's geography.
Nearby Waterways
The community is about 10 miles (16 kilometers) north of Lake Barkley. This lake is a large reservoir on the Cumberland River. It is also part of the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. About 10 miles (16 km) east by air, or 25 miles (40 km) by road, is Smithland, Kentucky. This is where the Cumberland River flows into the Ohio River.

Former Ferry Crossing
Long ago, there was a ferry in Dycusburg. This ferry helped people cross the Cumberland River. It stopped running in 1951.
History of Dycusburg
The town of Dycusburg was first planned by a person named William E. Dycus. It became an important shipping port on the Cumberland River. This meant goods could be sent and received by boat.
Early Days and Post Office
A post office was opened in Dycusburg in 1848. This helped people send and receive mail. It showed the community was growing.
The Tobacco Wars
On February 4, 1908, a group called the Night Riders came to Dycusburg. They were involved in something called the Tobacco Wars. During this time, they burned a tobacco warehouse and a distillery. These events were part of a larger conflict over tobacco prices.
Becoming Unincorporated
In 1980, Dycusburg was "disincorporated." This means it stopped being an official town or city. It became an unincorporated community. This means it is governed by the county, not its own local government.
