East Peak is a tall mountain in Meriden, Connecticut. It stands about 976 feet (297 m) high. This mountain is part of the Hanging Hills and is made of a special rock called basalt traprock.
East Peak is a very beautiful and wild place. It rises steeply about 600 feet (183 m) above the city of Meriden. The mountain has steep cliffs and offers amazing views of southern Connecticut and Long Island Sound. At the very top, there's a small stone tower called Castle Craig.
What is East Peak?
East Peak is located inside a large area called Hubbard Park. This park covers about 1,800-acre (7.3 km2). A long hiking path, the Metacomet Trail, goes right over East Peak.
How to Visit East Peak
You can drive up a road to a small parking lot near Castle Craig. This road is open during certain times of the year. Many people enjoy visiting East Peak.
Fun Activities at East Peak
There are many fun things to do at East Peak. You can go Hiking on the trails. Bicycling is also popular here. In the winter, when there's snow, you can even go cross-country skiing on the road.
While some websites might mention rock climbing at East Peak, the park's official information says that rock climbing is not allowed. It's important to follow the park rules to stay safe.
