Eastwood Creek is a small stream located in San Diego County, California. It's like a smaller river that flows into a bigger one. Eastwood Creek is a tributary of Coleman Creek.

This creek starts high up in the Cuyamaca Mountains. Its source is on the north side of a gold-rich mountain, just north of the town of Julian. From there, Eastwood Creek flows northwest for a short distance. Then, it turns southwest and travels down a canyon. Finally, it joins Coleman Creek near where an old town called Branson City used to be.

Exploring Eastwood Creek's Past

Eastwood Creek has an interesting history, especially linked to the California Gold Rush era.

Gold Mining and Early Settlements

In the late 1860s and early 1870s, people came to Eastwood Creek looking for gold. They used a method called placer mining. This means they would search for gold flakes and nuggets in the creek's gravel and sand. Many mining camps popped up along the creek's banks during this time.

How Eastwood Creek Got Its Name

The creek was named after a planned mining town called Eastwood. A man named Joseph Stancliff wanted to build this town northwest of Julian. However, the town didn't grow as planned. It was similar to another nearby town, Branson City, which also didn't last. Even though the town of Eastwood didn't thrive, its name stuck to the creek and a nearby hill.
