Discover Eckville's Past

Eckville got its name from an early settler named A. E. T. Eckford. The town wasn't always in its current spot! In 1912, it moved to its present location. This happened after the Canadian Northern Railway finished building its train line in the area. For a short time, this new spot on the railway was called Kootuk, but the name Eckville stuck. Eckville officially became a village in 1921. Later, in 1966, it grew and was recognized as a town.
