Where is Ector Located?
Ector is in the western part of Fannin County. A main road, Texas State Highway 56, goes right through the middle of town. If you go east on this highway for about 6 miles, you'll reach Bonham. Bonham is the main city for the county. If you go west for about 5.5 miles, you'll get to Savoy.
The city of Ector covers a total area of about 1.17 square miles (3.04 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.

A Look at Ector's History
Early Days and Growth
Ector began in the late 1800s. Farmers started settling near a place called Caney Creek. The town was named after one of these early settlers, Ector Owens. It was first called Victor's Station. However, postal workers said there was already a town with that name. So, the name was changed to Ector.
Mail service started in Ector in 1886. In 1892, the town got connected to the Texas and Pacific Railway. This was a big deal because it made Ector an important place for farmers to ship their crops.
By 1904, Ector had 218 residents. It also had a church, a school, and a bank. The number of people grew to 451 by 1926. At that time, there were 25 businesses in town. The population kept growing, reaching 457 in 1947.
Changes Over Time
By 1988, the population was reported as 650. However, the number of businesses in Ector had gone down. Many residents started traveling to nearby cities for work. They would commute to Sherman, which is about 20 miles west. Some also went to Denison, about 22 miles northwest.
Recent Developments
In 2017, a large project called Trident Lakes was being planned near Ector. It was meant to be a big resort and a special facility. However, by 2018, there were concerns about the project. Some investors felt that the project was not going as planned.
