Edmund John 'Ed' Deane was born in Dublin, Ireland, on November 18, 1952. He is a talented Irish guitarist whose music career has lasted for over 50 years! Ed is known for playing blues and rock music. He plays the electric and acoustic guitar. He is especially good at playing the slide guitar and the lap steel guitar.

Ed Deane is also known for being left-handed. He plays right-handed guitars upside down, which is a unique way to play!

Ed Deane's Musical Journey

Ed Deane started playing acoustic blues and slide guitar when he was still in school. He loved the music of early blues artists like Son House and Robert Johnson.

Starting Bands and Touring

When Ed was 16, he formed a band called Blueshouse. They played blues music regularly in Dublin. Famous musicians like Gary Moore and Phil Lynott sometimes joined their shows. Blueshouse also played with many visiting blues legends, such as Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup and Fred McDowell.

Later, Ed moved to London. He played with a band called Granny's Intentions for a while. Then, he joined Terry and Gay Woods in their band, The Woods Band. They toured Europe and recorded an album in 1971.

Playing with Famous Artists

Ed Deane took the place of Gary Moore in the band Skid Row. After that, he joined Bees Make Honey and recorded an album with them. He then spent four years in France, working with a rock band called Il Barritz. He also wrote music and did session work, which means playing on other artists' recordings.

When he returned to London, Ed recorded with Graham Parker and the Rumour. He also helped start a band called Juice on the Loose with Ron Kavana. Juice on the Loose toured Germany as the backing band for blues stars like Alexis Korner. They also recorded their own album. Ed was then asked to join Frankie Miller, a well-known singer. During the 1990s, Ed worked a lot with blues singer Dana Gillespie. They recorded several albums together. Dana Gillespie was even named 'Best British Female Blues Singer'. Ed also toured with her in the UK, Europe, and India. He played with Dana Gillespie at the Mustique Blues Festival in the Caribbean. He even opened for Bob Dylan on his 1997 tour in England.

Ed also played with many other rhythm and blues (R&B) artists. These included Shuggie Otis, Sonny Rhodes, and Lowell Fulson. He toured Germany with Paul Jones and The Blues Band. Ed has also recorded and played live shows with Shane MacGowan.

Recent Projects and Collaborations

Ed Deane recorded with Chris and Mick Jagger (from The Rolling Stones) on a tribute album. He worked with Chris Jagger on two of his solo albums. As part of the Atcha Acoustic band, Ed toured America, Europe, and India. He also recorded an album called Hurricane with the talented pianist Ben Waters.

In recent years, Ed recorded two albums with the Belfast songwriter Bap Kennedy. They toured a lot together, even with Van Morrison. Before moving back to Ireland, Ed toured with Nick Lowe and other songwriters like Dan Penn.

Since 2005, Ed Deane has been living back in Ireland. He plays regularly with his own band and other musicians like Henry McCullough and Donovan. He also helped write and star in a theatre show called The Devils Spine Band.
