Edward Joseph McGuire (born 29 October 1964) is a well-known Australian television and radio presenter. He is also a sports commentator and a businessman. Eddie McGuire has hosted many popular TV shows. These include Millionaire Hot Seat and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?.
He was also the president of the Collingwood Football Club. He stepped down in 2021 after a report about the club's culture. McGuire has had a long career in sports journalism and broadcasting.

About Eddie McGuire
Early Life and Education
Eddie McGuire was born on October 29, 1964. His parents, Edward Snr. and Bridie, moved to Australia from Scotland and Ireland. The family settled in Broadmeadows, a suburb of Melbourne.
Eddie and his older brother, Frank McGuire, both received scholarships. They attended Christian Brothers' College, St Kilda.
Starting His Media Career
Eddie's brother, Frank, was a sports reporter for a newspaper. He helped Eddie get his first job in media. Eddie started as a statistician for Australian Rules Football. He also reported on cricket for The Herald from 1978 to 1982.
Later, he became a cadet sports reporter for Network Ten. In 1993, he moved to the Nine Network. There, he became the host of a sports variety show.

Hosting Sports Programs
In 1994, Eddie McGuire became one of the hosts of The Footy Show. This show was about Australian Rules Football. He was a host until 2005 and returned for short periods later on.
In July 2017, Eddie returned to The Footy Show again. He hosted with Sam Newman and Rebecca Maddern. His company, JAM TV, helped produce the show. The show ended in 2019 after a few episodes.
Game Show Host
Eddie's role at Nine Network grew in 1999. He became the host of the Australian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. This was a very popular quiz show around the world. He hosted it from April 1999 until April 2006. He also hosted special episodes later.
In January 2007, McGuire hosted another quiz show called 1 vs. 100. Since April 2009, he has hosted the game show Millionaire Hot Seat. This show airs in the afternoon.
Other TV Appearances
McGuire hosted the annual Australian Logie Awards show in 2003 and 2004. He also co-hosted it in 2005.
In February 2009, he hosted a telethon to raise money. This was for the victims of the Victorian bushfires. He also hosted a telethon in January 2011 for victims of the 2010–2011 Queensland floods.
In 2012, Eddie joined Fox Footy as an AFL commentator. He also appeared as a panellist on their programs. He continued to host Millionaire Hot Seat for the Nine Network.
Radio Career
On radio, Eddie McGuire has been a football caller for Triple M. This station usually plays rock music. He rejoined the station in 2009. He co-hosted a breakfast radio show called Triple M's Hot Breakfast. He hosted this show with former AFL footballer Luke Darcy. The show ended in November 2020 after 11 years.
In June 2020, McGuire started an AFL radio show for American listeners. It was called Aussie Football Rules America with Eddie McGuire. It aired on Sirius XM satellite radio.
Eddie as a Business Leader
CEO of Nine Network
On February 9, 2006, Eddie McGuire became the new CEO of the Nine Network. This meant he had to stop his on-air jobs for a while. He stopped hosting The AFL Footy Show and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. He also stopped his AFL commentary.
During his time as CEO, he made some changes to the network. He resigned as CEO on June 30, 2007. After that, he took on new roles in programming and returned to more on-screen work.
Leading the Collingwood Football Club
On October 29, 1998, Eddie McGuire was elected president of the Collingwood Football Club. This is a famous Australian rules football club.
During his time as president, Collingwood played in two grand finals in 2002 and 2003. In 2010, Collingwood won the AFL grand final replay.
McGuire also helped bring in new coaches for the club. He oversaw a plan for former player Nathan Buckley to become the senior coach after Mick Malthouse.
He also helped move the club's training and office facilities. They moved from Victoria Park to the Olympic Park complex. This included new indoor and outdoor training areas.
In December 2020, McGuire announced he would step down as president. He had been in the role for 23 years. However, he stepped down earlier in February 2021. This was due to pressure after a report about the club's culture was released. Mark Korda replaced him as president.
Honours and Recognition
- In 2001, Eddie McGuire received the Australian Sports Medal. This was for his service to Australian Football.
- In 2005, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM). This honor recognized his service to the community. It was for his support of healthcare and welfare groups, and for his broadcasting work.
- On May 17, 2013, RMIT University gave McGuire an honorary doctorate. This recognized his achievements in media, entertainment, sports, and community activities.
