Where is Eddyville Located?
Eddyville is located where two main roads meet. These are U.S. Route 20 and Oregon Route 180. It's also found where Little Elk Creek flows into the Yaquina River. This makes it a place with natural beauty.
How Eddyville Got Its Name
Eddyville got its name from Israel F. Eddy. He was the postmaster in 1888. Before that, the post office was called "Little Elk" after a nearby creek. Mr. Eddy moved the post office and changed its name. Over time, the name "Eddyville" stuck for the community.
Eddyville's Railroad History
In the late 1800s, Eddyville was an important stop for trains. It was part of the Oregon Pacific Railroad. This railway connected the port city of Yaquina to cities like Corvallis and Albany. Later, in 1907, this railroad line became part of the Southern Pacific system.
