Edgewater is a small city in Colorado, United States. It's located in Jefferson County. In 2020, about 5,005 people lived there. Edgewater is surrounded by other cities like Denver to the east, Lakewood to the south and west, and Wheat Ridge to the north. This city is part of the larger Denver–Aurora–Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History of Edgewater
Edgewater got its name because it is located near Sloan's Lake. The town officially became a city in 1901.
Geography and Climate
Where is Edgewater Located?
In 2020, Edgewater covered an area of about 1.799 square kilometers (0.695 square miles). All of this area is land. Sloan's Lake, which used to extend into Edgewater, is now completely within the city of Denver, just east of Edgewater.
What is Edgewater's Climate Like?
Edgewater has a Semi-arid climate. This means it doesn't get a lot of rain or snow each year. Because Edgewater is right next to Denver, their climates are very similar.
Summers in Edgewater are hot and dry. Winters can be cool or cold, and it does snow. However, the snow usually melts quickly because the climate is sunny. In summer, high temperatures are often in the upper 80s or mid-90s Fahrenheit (around 30-35°C). Sometimes, it can even reach over 100°F (38°C). In winter, high temperatures are usually in the mid-40s to mid-50s Fahrenheit (around 7-13°C). Edgewater gets a lot of sunshine, with over 300 sunny days each year!

In April 2010, there were 5,170 people living in Edgewater. The city had 2,698 households. The average age of people living there was 33 years old. For every 100 females, there were about 100 males.
Most people in Edgewater are White (50.7%). A large number are also Hispanic or Latino (44.7%). About 10.7% of the people in Edgewater are not U.S. citizens. Also, 14.3% of the population were born in another country but are now U.S. citizens. About 26.9% of people over age 5 speak only Spanish at home.
City Services and Schools
Public Services in Edgewater
The Edgewater Police Department has 15 officers and several civilian employees. They work to keep the city safe. The police department uses the Jefferson County Combined Communications Center for 911 calls.
In 2012, the people of Edgewater voted to join the Wheat Ridge Fire Protection District for fire services. This meant Edgewater no longer had its own fire department. For medical emergencies, Edgewater uses Pridemark Paramedic Services.

Students in Edgewater attend local schools. These include Edgewater Elementary, Lumberg Elementary, and Jefferson High School.
