Edie McClurg (born July 23, 1945) is a retired American actress and comedian famous for her memorable voice and funny characters. You might recognize her as the voice of Carlotta the maid in Disney's The Little Mermaid, Dr. Flora in A Bug's Life, Minny in the Cars movies, and Mary in Wreck-It Ralph.

She also appeared in popular movies like Ferris Bueller's Day Off as the school secretary, Grace, and had roles in Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Flubber. On television, she was a guest star on many shows, including Full House, Seinfeld, and Hannah Montana.

Early Life and Schooling

Edie McClurg was born and grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. Her father was a mailman, and her mother worked as a secretary for the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), the agency that manages air travel in the U.S. Her older brother, Bob, was also an actor.

After high school, Edie went to the University of Missouri–Kansas City and later earned a master's degree from Syracuse University. Before becoming a full-time actress, she worked at a radio station, where she was a DJ and producer.

Acting Career

McClurg's career took off after she moved to Los Angeles and joined The Groundlings, a famous comedy group that practices improvisational comedy (making up scenes on the spot). There, she worked with other comedians like Paul Reubens (also known as Pee-wee Herman) and Cassandra Peterson (also known as Elvira).

Her first movie role was as Helen in the 1976 film Carrie. Soon, she became known for playing funny, and sometimes slightly clueless, characters from the Midwest.

McClurg is well-known for playing Grace, the school secretary, in the classic 1986 comedy Ferris Bueller's Day Off. She also played a friendly car rental agent in Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) and appeared in other comedies like Back to School (1986) and Mr. Mom (1983).

Later, she had roles in movies like A River Runs Through It (1992) and Flubber (1997), starring Robin Williams.
