The city of Edison was officially created in 1902. It was named after Thomas Edison, a famous American inventor. He is known for inventing things like the light bulb.

Edison is in the northwestern part of Calhoun County. You can find it at these coordinates: 31°33′39″N 84°44′17″W / 31.56083°N 84.73806°W. It is about 40 miles (64 km) west of Albany. It is also about 20 miles (32 km) east of the Alabama state line, near Fort Gaines.
