Edward Winslow Bryant Jr. (born August 27, 1945 – died February 10, 2017) was an American writer. He wrote exciting stories in the science fiction and horror genres. He was sometimes linked to "The New Wave" movement in science fiction. This movement brought new ideas and styles to the genre. At the time of his death, he lived in North Denver.

Edward Bryant was born in White Plains, New York. But he grew up on a cattle ranch in Wyoming. He went to school in Wheatland, Wyoming. Later, he earned his master's degree in English from the University of Wyoming in 1968.

When he was a kid in the 1950s, his uncle was a rodeo star. His uncle helped him love movies. This might be why Edward Bryant sometimes worked on screenplays. He also acted in a few films. These included The Laughing Dead (1988) and Ill Met by Moonlight (1994).

His writing career started in 1968. He attended a special writing program called the Clarion Workshop. Early in his career, he worked with another famous writer, Harlan Ellison. They even wrote a novel together, Phoenix Without Ashes. This book was based on a TV show script by Ellison.

Edward Bryant won two Nebula Awards. These are big awards for science fiction and fantasy writers. He won for his short stories "Stone" (1978) and "giANTS" (1979). He was best known for his short stories. But he also wrote poems, non-fiction, and reviews. He even edited an online magazine. His horror story "Dark Angel" was about a modern-day witch. It appeared in a collection called Dark Forces.

When Bryant moved to Denver in 1972, he started the Northern Colorado Writers Workshop. This workshop still helps new writers today. Many famous writers have come from this group. Some of them include Steve Rasnic Tem, Melanie Tem, and Dan Simmons. Bryant was also a senior editor for Wormhole Books. He led many other writing workshops too. These workshops helped writers of all skill levels.

Edward Bryant was a special guest at many big events. He was the "Toastmaster" (a host) for Denvention II in 1981. This was a huge science fiction convention. He also hosted events for the World Fantasy Convention and the World Horror Convention.

In 2010, some other writers and editors helped Edward Bryant. They started a fundraising page for him. This was to help him with money problems. These problems were caused by his long fight with Type 1 diabetes.

Edward Bryant passed away at his home in Colorado. This was on February 10, 2017. He was 71 years old. He had been sick for a long time.
