Edward of Norfolk (born around 1323 – died before 9 August 1334) was an important young noble in medieval England. He was also known as Edward of Brotherton. Edward was the only son of Thomas of Brotherton, who was a son of King Edward I of England. This made Edward of Norfolk a grandson of a king!

Edward's father, Thomas of Brotherton, was the eldest son of King Edward I and his second wife, Margaret of France. Margaret was the daughter of King Philippe III of France. Edward's mother was Alice de Hales, from a family in Norfolk. Edward had two older sisters:

A Royal Wedding

Edward of Norfolk was married when he was very young. In 1328, he married Beatrice Mortimer in Hereford. Beatrice was the daughter of Roger Mortimer, 1st Earl of March, a very powerful noble at the time.

This was a special double wedding! Beatrice's sister, Agnes Mortimer, also got married on the same day to Laurence Hastings, who later became the first Earl of Pembroke.

The weddings were a huge event. There was a magnificent tournament with knights competing. King Edward III and his mother, Isabella of France, were there to celebrate.

Edward and Beatrice did not have any children together. Edward died when he was still a boy, before his father passed away.

After Edward's Death

Edward of Norfolk died before 9 August 1334. He was still very young.

After Edward's death, his widow, Beatrice, married again. She married Sir Thomas de Brewes before 1337. They had three sons and three daughters together.

When Edward's father, Thomas of Brotherton, died in 1338, Edward's elder sister, Margaret, Duchess of Norfolk, became the Countess of Norfolk. This was because Edward had died without any children.
