Elaina Maureen Maxwell (born December 16, 1978) is an American athlete. She is known for her skills in mixed martial arts (MMA) and kickboxing.
Elaina is a three-time San Shou Champion. She also holds a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. She trained with coaches Kirian Fitzgibbons and Cesar Gracie.
In 2003, Elaina won the first American gold medal at the World Wushu (San Shou) Games in Macau, China. After this big win, she started learning Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
Elaina had five titles and a San Shou record of 14 wins and 1 loss. Two of her wins were by knockout. She began her professional fighting career in 2006.

Elaina Maxwell's Early Life
Elaina Maxwell has a twin sister named Ila. When she was in grade school, Elaina enjoyed playing soccer. In middle school, she also played volleyball.
Kickboxing Success: IKF Title
Elaina Maxwell became the IKF Amateur San Shou Rules Super Welterweight United States Champion. She won this title on July 24, 2004, in San Jose, California. Her opponent, Melissa Alley, could not fight, so Elaina won by default.
Elaina defended her title on July 23, 2005. She fought Tiffany Chen in San Jose, California. Elaina won the fight in the first round. She used a round kick that stopped the match.
Elaina Maxwell's MMA Career
Elaina Maxwell was part of a historic event. She fought in Strikeforce's first female MMA match. This fight was against Gina Carano on December 8, 2006. Elaina lost this fight by a decision from the judges.
On July 24, 2007, she faced Michelle Maher in an MMA title match. This event was called Melee on the Mountain. Elaina won the fight by a split decision. She became the Golden State MMA Light Middleweight Champion.
Elaina fought Miesha Tate at Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Thomson on June 27, 2008. She lost this fight by a unanimous decision.
She was supposed to fight Alexis Davis on May 8, 2010. However, Elaina had to pull out of the fight because of an injury.
Elaina faced Lizbeth Carreiro at Freestyle Cage Fighting 44. She won this fight by TKO in the first round on July 24, 2010.
Her next fight was against Alexis Davis again. This match took place on August 28, 2010. It was originally for a championship title. But Elaina could not make the required weight. So, it became a regular three-round fight. Elaina won this match by a unanimous decision.
On November 19, 2010, Elaina fought Shayna Baszler. Elaina was doing well with her strikes. But she lost the fight by a submission in the first round.
Elaina faced Shana Olsen on April 29, 2011. This fight was at Crowbar MMA: Spring Brawl 2. Elaina won the fight by a unanimous decision.
On July 23, 2011, Elaina fought Angela Samaro. This match was at King of the Cage: Shockwave. Elaina won by TKO in the third round.
Elaina faced Ashley Sanchez on March 30, 2012. This fight was at Resurrection Fighting Alliance 2. Elaina won the fight by a unanimous decision.
She was scheduled to fight Julia Budd on October 6, 2012. This event was Invicta Fighting Championships 3. But Elaina had to withdraw from the fight. She got a concussion during her training.
